Agartala, Nov 16: Prajabhadur Malsum Para, a vibrant hamlet where the soul of tribal life thrives, stands as a sanctuary of culture and artistry.
For generations, the Janajati families have passed down the sacred knowledge of bamboo and cane craftsmanship, a tradition that binds their past to the present.
The skilled craftsmen, guardians of an age-old tradition, have been crafting stories of heritage with every weave and knot without any government support.
In hamlet under Nonacherra ADC Village, nestled within the Teliamura sub-division in Tripura's Khowai district, the gentle rhythm of bamboo weaving continues to resonate.
Among the artisans, Nanda Kumar Malsum was seen preparing for the harvest season with hands that tell tales of decades gone by. He crafts mats, locally revered as "chattais," and sturdy containers, called "Dol," to store grains and rice.
These creations not only fulfill the community’s daily needs but also open small windows of livelihood through sales in local markets.
"The only aid we’ve known are promises that echo during election campaigns," Nanda Kumar Malsum laments.
He dreams of genuine government intervention to elevate their artistry into a sustainable livelihood.
In their tireless efforts, these artisans weave not just products but an enduring legacy. Each piece crafted in Nonacherra ADC Village is a reminder of a heritage that demands preservation, not only for the artisans themselves but for the cultural richness it gifts to the world.
