President opens, lays foundation stone for various projects in Sikkim

Nov 04 (AIR News): President Droupadi Murmu virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation of various central and state government projects at Manan Kendra, Gangtok, Sikkim on Friday.

She inaugurated the Atal Setu viaduct connecting West Bengal and Sikkim at Rangpo on National Highway 10; the two-lane Chisopani traffic tunnel including approach roads in East Sikkim; and the Ganju Lama Girls Hostel, Ravangla in South Sikkim under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram.

The President laid the foundation stone for the National Institute of Technology, Khamdong, East Sikkim; widening and improvement of road from Namchi to Birdhang connecting West and South Sikkim; District Hospital, Singtam, East Sikkim; and the World Renewal Spiritual Brahmakumaris Centre, Namchi, South Sikkim.

Expressing pleasure in inaugurating these projects in the education, tourism, health, and road infrastructure sectors, President Murmu said that they would provide momentum to development and boost local economy. She praised Sikkim's 80 percent literacy, high enrolment of girls in higher education, achievements in organic farming, milk and fruit production, cleanliness, and reduced plastic generation. The President also appreciated Sikkim's 100 percent COVID-19 vaccination coverage in a short span.

Speaking about the Northeast, President Murmu said that the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focusing on the region. She highlighted India's unity in diversity and said that she will try to solve all problems with everyone's support. Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad, chief minister PS Tamang, MPs, cabinet ministers, and MLAs were present at the programme.
