Prestigious SRFTI set to extend its wings in Tripura from Oct 31

Agartala, Sept 09: The wait is almost over. The proposed Agartala campus of prestigious Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) is all set to commence begin its journey from October this year.

Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury said, as decided in a joint meeting, inauguration of the proposed campus would take place at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala on October 31 next.

According to Chowdhury, the centre would begin its journey in the state with four short-term courses-- film appreciation course (4 weeks), screen acting (8 weeks, twice in a year), production management for cinema and television (4 weeks) and anchoring and news reading ( the details yet to be finalized),

He said, the notification for admission in the institute’s Agartala centre would be published on September 20 next after final approval from the SRFTI. The last date for submission of application would be October 20 next. 
The scrutiny of applications and admission process would take place from October 21 to October 30 next, he said, adding that the course would commence from November 7 and distribution of certificates (convocation) would take place on February 15, next year.

He said, a delegation of SRFTI, Kolkata had already visited the proposed site at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala a few months ago. Chowdhury said, he along with the secretary of ICA department held a meeting with the SRFTI officials at the institute’s campus in Kolkata on September 5 last where the inauguration of the proposed centre was finalized.

The state government already sanctioned Rs. 5.75 crore for the proposed centre. The PWD has been assigned to complete the works like internal electrification and renovation. The AMC has been assigned for beautification, he said, adding that the state government is developing the infrastructure as suggested by the SRFTI officials during their visit to Agartala.

He also said, the state government would not take any course fee or donation at the initial stage; the students only need to deposit a small-amount registration charge.

Secretary of ICA department Pradip Chakraborty and Director (in-charge) Santosh Das were present in the press conference.

The SRFTI is one of the pioneer Television and Film Institutes of the country functioning under the Ministry of information and Broadcasting department. (With inputs from Tripura Times)
