Agartala, Dec 02: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the incident related to the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is deeply regrettable. Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also condemned the incident.
The 'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti' held a massive protest near Circuit house. A delegation then met the officials of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission and submitted a memorandum to them, urging the interim government of Bangladesh to stop persecution on minor Hindus and protect their lives and properties. The protestors also demanded unconditional release of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, who has allegedly been implicated in false cases and arrested in Bangladesh.
During this time, some activists forcefully entered the complex of the Bangladesh Assistant high Commission and reportedly “desecrated” the Bangladesh National flag.
While the protests continue to take place across the state against the persecution on Hindu minorities, the incident at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission drew serious reactions.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the External Affairs Ministry said that the diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances. The Ministry added that the Government of India is taking action to step up security arrangements for the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and their Deputy and Assistant High Commissions in the country.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha condemned the breach of security at the Bangladesh AHC office in Agartala during the protests.
In social media posts, the Chief Minister said that a number of people gathered at the foot of the Gandhi statue in Agartala to protest against the massive attack on Hindus in Bangladesh and staged a peaceful sit-in.
“But some youths suddenly tried to enter the office of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. I condemn this incident. Peaceful agitations/protests can continue but such behaviour is absolutely not desirable,” said Saha.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, the interim Bangladesh government also called upon the Indian government to take immediate action to address this incident, to undertake a thorough investigation. They also called to prevent any further acts of violence against the diplomatic missions of Bangladesh in India and ensure including the safety and security of the diplomats and the non-diplomatic members of staff and members of their families.
