Agartala, Dec 21: Expansion of quality education is one of the top priorities of the present state government, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Wednesday.
He laid the foundation stone and performed Bhumi Pujan of Khetramohan New English Medium Academy in Shantipara, Agartala.
Addressing the programme, he said, Khetramohan Academy was a long-pending demand of the locals of this area. Their dream is going to be fulfilled now. The academy holds history, tradition and culture. The Chief Minister hoped that the establishment of the academy would bring changes in social status of the area.
Dr. Saha said, school is the primary base for gaining knowledge; the students should build themselves up properly right from their school days. The Chief Minister also said, over Rs. 1 crore has been recently approved for improving the infrastructure of Khetramohan New English Medium Academy. The fund has been allotted to PWD.
The Chief Minister informed that necessary steps would be taken to expand and improve the infrastructure of the academy rapidly. The Chief Minister said, the present state government believes in action. The government made efforts to fulfil the basic needs of the people.
He said, the state government is working for strengthening the healthcare services. Inauguration of health centres in different areas across the state, initiative to open Super Speciality Units in 9 branches of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP hospital, promotion of doctors and amendment of service rules for the recruitment of more doctors have been done.
A dental college has been established in the state in a very short span of time. However, a circle tried to create obstacles in that as well. In this context he slammed the role of Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman without naming him.
Minister for Education Ratan Lal Nath, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumdar, Corporator of AMC Ratna Dutta and West Tripura District Education Officer Rupan Roy were also present. The welcome speech was delivered by Director of Elementary Education Bimbisar Bhattacharjee. The Chief Minister along with other guests handed over hearing aids to 4 senior citizens of the area during the programme.
