Agartala, May 10: On the occasion of Mother’s Day, a large-scale river cleaning drive titled “Clean Rivers, Purify Hearts” (Nadi Swachhata Abhiyan) was successfully organized at Dashami Ghat, Agartala by Radharamaniyas’ Agartala, a group of devotees connected to Shree Radharaman Lal Temple, Vrindavan.
The initiative was conducted with the support of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and witnessed enthusiastic participation from volunteers, devotees, students, youth members, local residents, and children from the surrounding locality who spontaneously joined the cleanliness drive with great enthusiasm and energy.
People from different backgrounds, communities, classes, and religions also came together to support this noble initiative, reflecting a spirit of unity and collective responsibility towards nature.
The organizers expressed sincere gratitude to the Agartala Municipal Corporation Ward No. 34 for extending support by providing cleaning materials and necessary sanitation assistance for the successful conduct of the program.
The program began with the assembly of volunteers and distribution of gloves and cleaning materials, followed by the commencement of the river cleaning seva.
The participants collectively removed plastic waste, discarded materials, and other pollutants from the riverbank area while spreading awareness about cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
According to the organizers, Nadi Marjan Seva (river cleaning) is considered a devotional service performed as per the instructions and inspiration of their Sad Gurudev Bhagwan.
The initiative draws inspiration from the spirit of Yamuna Marjan Seva carried out in Vrindavan through Nimai Pathshala, a devotional and spiritual service initiative guided by Shree Renuka Goswami Mataji, lovingly revered by devotees as Maiya.
Inspired by this culture of seva and devotion, the volunteers of Radharamaniyas’ Agartala (Shree Radharaman Temple, Vrindavan) have undertaken the mission of protecting local rivers and water bodies through collective action and awareness.
The organizers stated that the campaign was inspired by the devotional principle that service to nature is also service to the Divine. They emphasized that rivers are not merely water bodies but lifelines of civilization, culture, and spiritual heritage, and therefore deserve collective care and protection.
Among the distinguished guests present during the cleaning drive was Shyamal Kumar Deb, President, 8-Town Bordowali Mandal, who appreciated and encouraged the initiative.
He motivated the volunteers and assured his support for future river cleaning drives, including the provision of life jackets and other necessary assistance to ensure safer and more effective seva activities in the coming days.
Following the cleaning drive, volunteers assembled together for a peaceful Harinam Sankirtan and concluding session at the cleaned ghat area, symbolizing harmony between spirituality, social responsibility, and environmental awareness.
The organizers appealed to all citizens to become more careful and responsible towards rivers and water bodies and invited everyone to join and support future cleanliness and environmental service initiatives.
“Together, through seva and collective responsibility, we can build a cleaner and greener Agartala,” the organizers said.
