Remal: Tripura Govt sounds alert, declares closure of educational institutions on May 27, 28

Agartala, May 26: In view of the Cyclone Remal, the Tripura government has issued fresh warnings for three days till May 29 and announced closure of all educational institutions in the state on May 27 and 28.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha urged the people not to panic as the State Government is ready to handle the impact of cyclone effectively. He also advised the people to stay alert.
An official press release said, the administration is fully prepared to deal with any eventuality.
"In Tripura, an increase in rainfall actively accompanied with heavy rainfall and gusty wind at isolated places is to occur during 26 to 29 May, 2024 Under the influence of the cyclonic storm. The rainfall is expected to start in Tripura from 26 May, 2024 night and will continue up to 29th May, 2024", the press release said.
Immediately after the receipt of the first bulletin from IMD and Advisory from NDMA, the Revenue department has issued advisories to the DM & Collectors on 24th May 2024 for taking up preparatory measures. The Secretary, Revenue (RR&DM) is in constant touch with the DM & Collectors for ensuring all necessary measures for mitigating the impact of the cyclone in the State. Emergency Operation Centres at the State and District levels are functioning for 24x7 basis. 
Considering the severity of cyclone an urgent Meeting of State Executive Committee was also held on 26th May 2024 under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary in the Civil Secretariat. The DGP, PCCF, Secretaries, and Heads of relevant departments and senior officers from other agencies such as IMD, Airport Authority, NDRF etc attended the meeting. 
The State Executive Committee has taken some key decisions-- the Schools, Educational Institutions and Anganwadi Centres will remain closed on May 27 and 28.
The Transport department has been advised to coordinate with Railways, Airport Authority and Road Transports for public safety and inform the public if there is any cancellation of flights, trains and other transports.
The NDRF has been requested to mobilise one team to southern side specifically at Santirbazar to cater to South Tripura and Gomati Districts. The SDRF teams have been instructed to be ready for responding to any emergency. 
The Food department has been asked to ensure availability of food and essential supplies. The Fishery department has been asked to alert fishermen communities not to enter lakes/ rivers/ reservoirs etc for fishing during 26-28 May 2024. 
The Airport Authority of India, Agartala has informed that all flights arriving from Kolkata to Agartala have been cancelled till 0900 hrs on May 27. Passengers have been informed by the concerned airlines. Other flights arriving from Delhi, Bangalore and Guwahati are being operating normally. Updates for air traffic will be updated further.
