Report on flood assessment to be submitted soon, central team assures Tripura CM

Agartala, Aug 30: The report of on-the-spot assessment of flood damages in Tripura would soon be submitted to the government, a visiting central delegation assured Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
The Inter-Ministerial Central Team, sent by the Ministry of Home affairs to Tripura based on the request of the state government after the devastating flood, met the Chief Minister at secretariat on Friday evening.
The delegation arrived in the state on August 28 and inspected several flood-affected areas in four districts- South Tripura, Gomati, Sepahijala and Khowai so far. They noted the damages during the on-the-spot inspection.

After the meeting, the Chief Minister in his official social media handle wrote, “Today, I met with the IMCT at the secretariat, and they assured me to immediately submit a report on the floods situation and the large scale damage caused by it to the Home Ministry. This will help in facilitating further assistance and support for the flood-affected people of Tripura. Grateful for the prompt response and support by the Govt of India."
Meanwhile, in view of the recent devastating flood, Tripura has been as notified as ‘Natural Calamity Affected Area’.
Revenue secretary Brijesh Pandey at a press conference said, Tripura recorded 32 deaths due to landslides, drowning and collapse of house caused by heavy rainfall from August 19-23.
He said, the landslides claimed 19 lives, 12 people died due to drowning and another person lost his life due collapse of house.
The preliminary reports suggested that the state suffered damages worth over Rs. 15,000 crore in the devastating flood.
