Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday announced that the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Rs. 250-crore package for the state.
The package, sanctioned under a new component of the existing Central Government Scheme of Special Development Package for Tripura, aims to uplift the tribal communities of the state, according to Dr. Saha.
It comes in line with the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed between the Government of India, Government of Tripura, and the surrendered members of the National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), the Chief Minister wrote in a social media post.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Dr. Saha said the funds will be utilised to improve the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable and marginalised groups who have not fully benefited from existing government schemes.
The package will focus on creating employment opportunities, improving healthcare services, promoting education and skill development, and enhancing livelihoods, particularly for youth and women.
Additionally, the scheme is expected to boost tourism inflow from other parts of the country, creating fresh avenues for employment and income generation in the North Eastern region.
Several ruling party leaders expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet for their commitment to Tripura’s holistic development, especially in strengthening peace and prosperity among tribal communities.
