Rs. 40 cr project in pipeline for historic Amar Sagar in Udaipur: Pranajit

In a major push towards transforming Udaipur town’s historic waterbodies into vibrant public spaces, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy has unveiled a Rs. 40-crore development plan for iconic Amar Sagar.

He made the announcement soon after taking a scenic boat ride at the newly revamped Jagannath Dighi—an experience he described as a reflection of Udaipur’s evolving identity where heritage and modernity flow together.

Sharing glimpses of his boat ride on social media, Singha Roy hailed the revitalization of Jagannath Dighi as a success story of urban beautification.

“Once forgotten, this lake has been brought back to life, now offering serenity, charm, and a sense of community pride,” he wrote.

To enhance public engagement, the minister announced that selfie points and a commemorative statue would soon be installed at the lakefront, inviting both locals and tourists to enjoy the transformed surroundings.

As he mentioned, beyond Jagannath Dighi, the government is rolling out ambitious plans for other key waterbodies in the town.

Amar Sagar, another historically significant lake, is set for a massive redevelopment under a nearly Rs. 40-crore proposal. Dhanisagar too will undergo modernization to complement the city’s growing tourism and environmental efforts. Simultaneously, work is progressing at Mahadev Dighi, which is expected to be unveiled as a major recreational site within a year.

With nature, culture, and innovation coming together, we envision a greener, cleaner, and more vibrant Udaipur. This transformation is just the beginning, said Singha Roy.
