Agartala, Sept 05: The Tripura Legislative Assembly erupted into chaos during the second day of the ongoing Monsoon Session on Thursday, as members of the Opposition CPM and Congress walked out in protest.
Their objection centered around the adoption of a motion that extended congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for securing his third consecutive term in office.
The motion, introduced by Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen during the reference period, also commended the newly-elected Lok Sabha members and acknowledged the voters who participated in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
Tensions flared when Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, raised concerns as soon as the Speaker began reading the motion. His objections, supported by fellow CPM and Congress MLAs, focused on the procedural handling of the motion.
According to Chaudhury, such motions should be discussed and finalized in the Business Advisory Committee meeting prior to their presentation.
As the debate grew more heated, CPM and Congress legislators moved to the well of the House in protest. Ultimately, they staged a walkout before the Speaker could complete the reading. Despite their exit, the motion was passed by the Assembly.
The motion highlighted the NDA government's efforts since 2014, emphasizing its commitment to public welfare, innovation, and national unity, stating that the nation had benefited from these policies.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratanlal Nath, addressing the Assembly, confirmed that the motion would be forwarded to the central government for acknowledgment.
