Agartala, Sept 24: The Tripura government is setting up Arogya Mandirs across the state to ensure timely access to basic healthcare services for people, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said today.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed polyclinic at A.D. Nagar and virtually inaugurated five Urban Arogya Mandirs at Radhanagar, Jagaharimura, Ujan Abhoynagar, Dhaleswar and Ramakrishna Shivalaya Ashram.
The 12-room Urban Polyclinic at A.D. Nagar was constructed at a cost of Rs 2.10 crore. After the inauguration, the Chief Minister inspected the facility.
Speaking at the programme, Dr. Saha said the state government has accorded the highest priority to improving health infrastructure. As a result of infrastructure development in various hospitals, referrals of patients to hospitals outside the state have declined considerably.
"While 555 patients were referred outside the state in 2023, the number has come down to 161 so far in 2026, he said. The government is making efforts to ensure that patients do not have to travel outside Tripura for advanced treatment", the Chief Minister said.
He added that satellite health centres established in the hilly areas of the state are playing an important role in providing healthcare services to people in remote regions.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of doctors, healthcare workers and ASHA workers in rural hospitals. He said telemedicine services have also been playing an important role in providing advanced healthcare within the state.
An advanced studio will be established at GBP Hospital to further strengthen the telemedicine system, he mentioned.
The e-Sanjeevani service is also contributing significantly, he added. The Chief Minister said the bed capacity of GBP Hospital, the state's major referral hospital, has been increased from 727 to 1,400 over the past few years. He said an Integrated Health Medical System (IHMS) has also been developed to further improve healthcare management in the state.
Referring to the government's plans for the tourism and healthcare sectors, Chief Minister said initiatives have been taken to develop Tripura as a tourism-health hub by strengthening both infrastructures. Four more super-specialty blocks will also be established at GBP Hospital. He expressed hope that the AD Nagar Polyclinic and the newly inaugurated Arogya Mandirs would play an important role in providing healthcare services to local residents.
Special guest and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee said the state government is implementing various initiatives to improve healthcare services for the people.

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA Dipak Majumder, State Mission Director of the National Health Mission Saju Vaheed A, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma and others were present at the programme.
West Tripura Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shankar Chakraborty delivered the welcome address, while MLA Mina Rani Sarkar proposed the vote of thanks.
