Agartala, Sept 24: State Election Commissioner (SEC) Dr P. K. Chakraborty, accompanied by Director General of Police (in-charge) G.S. Rao, on Thursday reviewed the preparedness of the North Tripura district administration and police ahead of the General Election to Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

During the visit, the SEC and the DGP in-charge inspected the Strong Room at Jubarajnagar RD Block and the Counting Hall at Balidhum S.B. School. They reviewed the arrangements at both locations and assessed the preparedness for the polling and counting processes.

A review meeting was subsequently held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the District Magistrate & Collector, North Tripura. The meeting was attended by  Superintendent of Police, North Tripura- Avinash Rai; Additional SP; Election Observer; Additional District Magistrate & Collector (PP); Returning Officers (ROs); Assistant Returning Officers (AROs); and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs).

Various aspects of poll preparedness were discussed during the meeting, including security arrangements, logistical preparations, monitoring mechanisms and other election-related measures.

Dr Chakraborty said the discussions focused on ensuring all necessary steps are taken for the conduct of a free, fair and peaceful election. The officials also reviewed security deployment and arrangements for effective monitoring of the electoral process.

The visit and review meeting were part of the Election Commission's ongoing assessment of arrangements across the district ahead of the Village Committee polls.

The VC election will be held on September 28 and the counting of votes will take place October 5.

It may be mentioned that North Tripura district has a total of 60 Village Committees. A total of 1,04,040 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the Village Committee elections. Across seven blocks, there are 466 seats, with 177 polling stations.

Speaking to reporters after the review meeting, State Election Commissioner Dr. P. K. Chakraborty said the special meeting was held to assess the overall preparedness of the district administration to ensure that the Village Committee elections are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

After reviewing the preparedness of the district administration and police administration, the State Election Commissioner expressed hope that the Village Committee elections would be conducted freely, fairly and peacefully.
