Security Breach in B’desh mission: Visa & consular services suspended, 7 arrested, cops suspended

Agartala, Dec 03: The Bangladesh mission in Agartala on Tuesday suspended all visa and consular services following the breach of security at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission (AHC) office on Monday.
A notice from the Bangladesh AHC said, given the security situation, all visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Agartala will remain suspended until further notice. This comes into effect immediately.
After the Monday's incident, adequate security forces have been deployed deployed in and around the Bangladesh AHC office.
Meanwhile, three Sub-Inspectors of Tripura Police were suspended while an assistant commandant (a DSP rank officer) was withdrawn from duty their negligence in duty during the incident.
The incident had taken place during a deputation followed by a massive protest organized by 'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti' at the Circuit House area. The protest was called to stop atrocities on minority Hindus in Bangladesh and immediate release of the Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das.
During the protest, some activists reportedly entered the complex of the AHC and “desecrated” the Bangladesh National flag.
Tripura Police arrested seven people in connection with breach of security in the Bangladesh Assistant high Commission on Monday night and initiated a probe into the incident. On Tuesday, they all were granted bail by a court.
Meanwhile, All Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners’ Association (ATHROA) in an urgent meeting here on Monday night decided not to provide accommodation and services to the Bangladeshi nationals in protest against the atrocities on Hindus in the neighbouring country.
Earlier, one of the private healthcare facilities in Agartala decided to stop services for Bangladeshi patients following protests by some local activists. (inputs taken from Agencies)
