Serving Humanity: School friends, their spouses unite to extend aid to flood-hit people

Agartala, Sept 03: Sending a strong message serving humanity in difficult times, a group of friends from 2006 batch of Baikhora H.S. School and their spouses brought a glimmer of hope for the people devastated by the recent floods.
In this group, individuals from various backgrounds- whether in banking, teaching, nursing, Handloom department, NIT Agartala or the field of Education—came together to extend helping hand providing relief to the flood victims.
They reached out one to another via WhatsApp, Facebook and other modes of communication. The response was overwhelming. Contributions came from friends and family across Spain, Sikkim, Delhi, Bangalore and Guwahati enabling the group to expand their initial plan from helping 20 families to eventually reaching 100.
To ensure that aid reaches those most in need, the group meticulously selected the hardest-hit areas- Sulthang, Manu, Durgaraibari, Mog Para, Devipur, UchaiBari, Ratanpur, Muhuripur Vanbihar, South Muhuripur, North Jolaibari and Kalashi.
Each family received a package of vital supplies, including 3 kg rice, 1 kg pulse, 200 gm turmeric,  1Kg Salt, 1 Kg Potato, 500 ml mustard oil, 2 packets of soyabean, 1Kg Panch Foron, one toothpaste, 2 packets of detergent powder, 2 packets of mosquito incense sticks, 1 packet of candles,     One soap, 2 packets of Horlicks, 2 Packet Biscuit, Chocolate for Kids,     10 packets of matchsticks, Sanitary napkins, one bedsheet, one towel, Sarees and shirts along with New clothes for children.
The group worked tirelessly and carried out the relief efforts on September1, from morning to evening. The families who received the help were deeply moved, having lost everything in the floods.
Many shared their heart-wrenching stories of the night of August 22, with tears in their eyes. The group’s intervention not only provided essential supplies but also a glimmer of hope to those who had lost so much.
Some families, still in dire need, reached out for further help, highlighting the on-going struggle and the need for continued support.
As the group’s motto reflects, “Divided we fall, united we stand.” Their efforts are a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together in solidarity, proving that even small groups can create profound change in times of crisis.
A member of the group commented, “We are committed to supporting the community and planning to continue the efforts through their friendship and community. We are highly thankful and grateful to everyone who supported and contributed to this journey.”
