Agartala, May 23: Severe thunderstorms and lightning strikes claimed three lives in separate incidents in two locations of Tripura over the past two days.

In the most tragic incident, a brother and sister were killed after lightning struck their residence at Nabincherra under Pecharthal in Unakoti district on Saturday.

The victims were identified as Sumanta Chakma (30) and Mina Chakma (27). 

According to local sources, the area witnessed heavy rainfall and intense thunderstorm activity since afternoon. The siblings were reportedly inside their home when lightning suddenly struck, leaving both critically injured.

Family members and neighbours immediately shifted them to a nearby healthcare facility, but doctors declared them brought dead.

The shocking incident left the entire locality grief-stricken.

In another incident reported from Methir Mia village in Kamalpur sub-division of Dhalai district, a farmer lost his life after being struck by lightning on Friday evening.

The deceased, identified as Sushil Das, had reportedly gone to a nearby field to bring back his cattle during heavy rain when the lightning strike occurred.
