The Election Commission of India (ECI) has assured that a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls would be carried out across the country, including Tripura.
The assurance came in a meeting between the delegation from the Tipra Motha party and Election Commission of India officials in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The delegation, led by Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, submitted a formal request to the ECI officials to initiate the SIR exercise in Tripura to address concerns over irregularities in the voter list.
In a social media post, Pradyot wrote, "Illegal migration is affecting our state and northeast and today if we don’t identify illegal voters there will be no tomorrow for our next generation."
He further stated that the ECI responded positively to the demand and confirmed that SIR would be undertaken nationwide, including Tripura.
The Tipra Motha delegation included senior leaders such as Ministers Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma, along with Chief Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Purna Chandra Jamatia.
