Agartala, May 25: The Central government has cleared the promotion of six Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officers to the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), marking a key development in the state’s administrative setup.
The appointments were notified by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions through the Select List of 2025. The promotions have been made under provisions of the IAS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955.
As per the notification issued from New Delhi on May 25, the officers will join the Tripura cadre of the IAS on probation against vacancies identified for the 2025 selection cycle, pending further orders.
The officers inducted into the IAS are Sarmistha Datta, Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury, Akinchan Sarkar, Sumit Lodh and Rajesh Kumar Das.
Officials said the promotions were finalized following consultation with the Tripura government. However, the appointments will remain subject to the outcome of ongoing judicial proceedings concerning seniority and promotion issues involving Tripura Civil Service officers.
Among the pending matters are a seniority-related case before the Supreme Court and a separate petition before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Guwahati Bench, linked to IAS promotions in the Tripura cadre.
The induction of the six senior officers into the IAS is expected to add experienced leadership to the state administration and enhance governance and policy implementation in Tripura.
