SLBC Meeting: Tripura Banks assure support to flood victims, particularly in Agri sector

Agartala, Sept 02: Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha presided over a crucial State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) meeting at the Secretariat on Monday, addressing the aftermath of the recent floods that have struck Tripura.
The meeting saw presence of secretaries, special secretaries, directors, and senior officials from various departments. During the session, detailed reports on the flood-induced damage were presented by the officials.
Following the meeting, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy held a press briefing in the Secretariat’s conference hall to outline the discussions.
He announced that representatives from several banks had reaffirmed their dedication to supporting those impacted by the floods, particularly within the agriculture sector.
He said, the banks planned to collaborate with different departments to hold camps in the flood-affected regions for providing loans.
In addition, they made committment to offering support through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban and Rural) for the flood victims. Other highlighted initiatives included the PMEGP, Swabalamban, PM Vishwakarma Scheme, Kisan Credit Card, educational loans, development of rural infrastructure, and enhancing the Credit-Deposit Ratio.
The Finance Secretary further noted that the secretaries provided detailed assessments of the damage within their respective sectors to the banking representatives. The Agriculture department is currently conducting a thorough evaluation of the damage to farmlands, with a final report expected to be submitted to the banks within the week, Roy said.
Moreover, the Secretaries of the Animal Resources Development and Fisheries departments reported substantial losses in their sectors.
Reports on losses were also presented by officials from the Social Welfare and Social Education, Education, Rural Development, Industry and Commerce, and Urban Development departments.
Rakhi Biswas, Director of Group Insurance and Institutional Finance, and Khaturaj Krishna, the SLBC Convenor, among others also attended the press conference.
