Agartala, Sept 09: Mourya Krishna C, Superintendent of Police, South Tripura District, chaired the crime conference at the SP Office Conference Hall, Belonia, today. 

The conference reviewed prevailing crime trends and the law and order situation in the district in the run-up to the TTAADC Village Committee Elections scheduled for September 28.

In South Tripura, the polls will be held across 70 Village Committees, 306 constituencies and 538 seats, with 177 polling stations. Statewide, the elections cover 587 Village Committees, 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats, with 9,61,977 electors on the final rolls and 1,550 polling stations. Polling will be held from 7 am to 4 pm, with counting of votes will be held on October 05.

Reviewing security arrangements, the Superintendent of Police stated that adequate deployment of Central Armed Police Forces, Tripura State Rifles and district police will be made to cover every polling station in the district. 

Approximately 1,200 security personnel are expected to be deployed for the poll. Polling stations have been categorised as hyper-critical, sensitive and normal, with graded deployment made accordingly, and block-level strong rooms will be secured with armed guard and round-the-clock surveillance.

Ahead of the poll, area domination exercises, mobile patrolling and intensified vehicle checking at nakas — including at inter-district and border points — will be carried out to ensure the elections are held peacefully. 

Preventive action is being taken against elements likely to disturb public peace, along with enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct and strict checks on the movement of illegal arms, narcotics, liquor and unaccounted cash.

The Superintendent of Police directed all SDPOs and Officers-in-Charge to act firmly against criminal elements, maintain public order in their jurisdictions, and remain in close coordination with the civil administration and the election machinery.
