Special Gram Sabha on students' learning held across Tripura

Agartala, Oct 03: Special Gram Sabhas were held in every Gram Panchayat and ADC Village of Tripura on Saturday.

In the Gram Sabha, the Head Teachers of schools under the Panchayats and ADC Villages conveyed the actual status of learning level of students of classes III to VIII of his/her school covering the phases like baseline survey, half yearly examination, annual examination in session 2019-20, interim assessment in March, 2021 and the progress made after school opening.

To encourage and appreciate newly acquired reading skills, the students read out messages of Mahatma Gandhi in the Gram Sabhas.

To minimize the learning gap caused due to closure of schools, a Catch-up Campaign under comprehensive learning enhancement programme ‘Nutan Disha’ has been taken up in each school with effect from August 23 last.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in his speech on Teachers Day (Sept 5) exhorted teachers to bridge the gap in learning levels before November 14, Children's Day.

“This Special Gram Sabha will help us achieve the goal of the Catch –Up campaign by making all stakeholders aware of the programme and the actual learning levels of each student. In many places HMs shared the list of students who didn't join back school after the long Covid closure and requested elected representatives to take initiative to bring them back,” Director of Elementary Education- Chandni Chandran said in a press note.

The objectives of Gram Sabhas are- to make all stakeholders aware of Catch up campaign and the actual status of students with respect to learning levels, to encourage students to improve their reading and arithmetic skills, to improve the confidence level of the students, to establish a regular communication between students and teachers and other stakeholders, to increase the attendance of the students, to bring back drop out children to schools and to encourage participation of local self-government institutions in matters of education.

According to an official report, Gram Sabhas were held in 673 Gram Panchayats and 565 ADC villages. As many as 10,325 Head Teachers, TICs and Teachers attended the Gram Sabhas while total 11,292 students read out the messages of Gandhiji.
