Agartala, July 28: Overwhelmed by the response of people, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday announced that the special vaccination drive that commenced on Tuesday would now continue till July 31 next.
The Tripura Government had initiated the special drive for two days- July 27 and 28 with an aim to vaccinate 100 percent eligible population.
Deb, who extensively visited several vaccination centres on Tuesday and Wednesday, claimed in a social media post that there was a spontaneous response among the people following the special vaccination campaign.
In his official Facebook handle, Deb wrote that the special drive was now extended for three more days up to July 31. He made an appeal to all the left-out people to take vaccine during this drive so that the state can achieve its goal of 100 percent vaccination.
On Wednesday, he visited Shakbari Health Sub Centre at Sabroom of South Tripura district and Kasko Sub Centre and Tentuibari Sub Centre in Gomati district.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Chief Minister had said that Tripura would soon emerge as the first state of the country in terms of 100 percent vaccination.
Deb, who visited various vaccination centres in two districts- Unakoti and Khowai on Tuesday, claimed that around 86 percent of the total eligible population was already vaccinated with the first dose and the special drive was expected to cover the left-out people.
The Chief Minister said that the special drive was aimed at vaccinating the 100 percent eligible population. According to an official report, 26.24 lakh people (18+ age groups) were eligible for vaccination against COVID19 in the state.
In Khowai district, Deb visited vaccination centres at Jambura health sub centre and Madhya Singicherra health sub centre and in Unakoti district, he paid visits to Irani primary health centre, Chinibagan health sub centre and Gouranagar health sub centre.
In some places, Deb clicked selfies with the people who took vaccines.
Deb said, earlier he came to know that some people were not willing to take vaccines in such centres where he visited on Tuesday.
“But, during my visits, I found that the people were taking vaccines spontaneously which indicated the excitement among the people,” Deb said according to a government press release.
