Standardized school uniform policy introduced in Tripura

In a significant move toward standardization in education, the Tripura government has announced the implementation of a school uniform policy for all government-run schools across the state.

According to an official release from the School Education Department, the initiative is intended to promote uniformity, equality, and a cohesive identity among students enrolled in government institutions. The policy will apply to Vidyajyoti schools, PM SHRI schools, and other government schools, ensuring a consistent dress code across institutions of the same category.

However, the directive includes exceptions. Four prominent schools – Shishu Bihar H.S. School, Sukhamoy H.S. School, Umakanta Academy (all in West Tripura), and PM SHRI Radha Kishore Institution in Unakoti district– are exempted from the new regulation.

The standardized uniform will be mandatory for students from Classes I to XII, with the exception of the aforementioned schools. District Education Officers (DEOs) have been instructed to oversee the implementation by informing school heads and faculty to begin the transition process.

To ease the shift, schools are allowed to use both the current and new uniforms during the ongoing academic session. However, from the next academic year onward, the standardized uniform must be strictly enforced, the notification stated.

As part of the Samagra Shiksha initiative, government-provided uniforms for eligible students in Classes I to VIII are already being distributed in accordance with the new policy.
