Supported by TRLM, rural woman becomes ‘Lakhpati Didi’

Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM)-run Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been evidently transforming the lives of a good number of rural women, making them financially and socially independent.

Satyabati Nath of Bilthai village in North Tripura district's Panisagar sub-division is one of such shining examples. From a rural housewife to ‘Lakhpati Didi’, she has an inspiring entrepreneurial journey to tell.

The passion for bamboo craftsmanship has led the woman towards the journey of becoming a successful entrepreneur. She now runs ‘Radha Krishna Bamboo Craft’, a small but growing venture specializing in the creation of intricate bamboo handicrafts.

The foundation of her success story was laid when the woman became a part of Krishna Self-Help Group, where she received financial support as well necessary training for enhancing skills.

The attractive bamboo crafts made by the woman, with the support of her family, were appreciated in various platforms like Saras Mela. She now earns over Rs. 2.75 lakh annually from the small business setup. She also works as a Master Book Keeper under the TRLM.

While paying the installment—Rs. 16,000 per month easily against a loan of Rs. 2 lakh, the Lakhpati Didi’s entrepreneurial spirit is also inspiring other women in the village reflecting the SHGs’ role in livelihood support for the rural women.

At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government launched various schemes aiming at women empowerment, her success story gives the message that the small beginnings can lead to big dreams through dedication and determination. (inputs taken from Tripura Times)
