Tearful adieu to veteran Journalist Pradip Dutta Bhowmik

Agartala came together on Monday in bidding a heartfelt farewell to veteran journalist and News Editor of Dainik Sambad, Pradip Dutta Bhowmik, who passed away in Delhi’s AIIMS hospital on Sunday.

His mortal remains reached Agartala earlier in the day, sparking an outpouring of grief from across the media fraternity, political, and cultural spectrum.

Colleagues, friends, and admirers gathered at Dainik Sambad’s Nutannagar and city offices to pay their last respects to the departed journalist, whose career spanned decades and left a significant imprint on the media landscape of Tripura.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha visited Dutta Bhowmik’s residence in Indranagar and offered floral tributes, recalling the journalist’s long-standing contribution to responsible journalism in the state.

Around 5:15 PM, his body was brought to the Agartala Press Club, where senior editors, media personnel, writers, academicians, and officials gathered to honour his legacy.

Among those who paid homage were Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, former MLA Subal Bhowmik, Padma Shri awardee Arunoday Saha, and BJP leader Jawhar Saha. Members of the Press Club including President Pranab Sarkar and Secretary Ramakanta Dey and representatives from various walks of life also paid their respect.

Following the tribute, a funeral procession moved past the old Dainik Sambad building—where Dutta Bhowmik had spent much of his journalistic life—before heading to Battala crematorium.

His final rites were performed amidst tearful goodbyes from his family, colleagues, and admirers, marking the end of a chapter in Tripura’s media history.
