Agartala, Dec 03: Tripura Police arrested three persons for assaulting a doctor on duty at Unakoti District Hospital on Friday.

The three accused—Shyamal Das, Sandip Das, and Ranjit Das—were produced before the court and they were granted bail.

The incident occurred late Thursday night when Dr. Droupad Das was attending an accident victim in the emergency ward.

According to reports, the trio entered the ward and demanded immediate attention for Ranjit Das, who had sustained head injuries. Despite being directed to the dressing room, they allegedly turned violent.

Dr. Das was physically assaulted, including being slapped in the presence of police personnel who also faced misbehavior when they intervened. The entire episode was captured on the hospital's CCTV.

On Friday morning, a delegation of doctors led by Medical Superintendent Dr. Rohan Paul filed a formal complaint at Kailashahar police station against the accused.

President of the All Tripura Government Doctors Association, Dr. Pradip Debbarma, visited the hospital to meet with the medical staff and condemned the attack, demanding strict legal action against the culprits.

The incident has drawn widespread criticism, as one of the accused, Shyamal Das, is reportedly an influential local leader of the ruling party.
