Three workers die while cleaning abandoned ring well in Tripura

Agartala, June 8: In an unfortunate incident, three workers died while cleaning a ring well at Neuramora J.B. School premises in South Taibandal ADC village under Sepahijala district on Saturday.

The victims were identified as Ashok Kumar Tripura, Shambhu Kumar Debbarma, and Shukamani Murasingh.

A teacher at the school had hired them to clean the abandoned ring well. When the first worker descended into the well and failed to respond after a considerable period, the two others followed but also became unresponsive.

Local Fire Service personnel were then called and they promptly arrived at the scene and shifted the workers to Melaghar hospital. Unfortunately, the attending doctor declared all three dead and suspected that they had succumbed to asphyxia.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, currently in Delhi, expressed his condolences on social media, offering deep sympathy to the bereaved families.

The ring well had been lying abandoned for some time, leading to water issues at the school. In an effort to resolve this, the three workers were engaged on Saturday to clean the well, according to local sources.
