'Tiger family' sighting triggers fear among villagers

A sense of panic has gripped the Madhya Rajnagar village in North Tripura district after multiple sightings of a tiger family were reported on Sunday night.

Many of the local people kept themselves confined indoors, fearing for their safety, as the big cats were spotted roaming in the area.
Despite swift action by forest and police officials, the tigers have yet to be located.

Initial reports came from Nur Ahmed, who claimed to have witnessed two tigers while driving through Rajnagar late Sunday night.

As dawn broke on Monday, another villager, Gias Uddin, and several others reported seeing two tigers near the home of a local resident. The tigers soon disappeared into nearby paddy fields, leaving the village on edge.

The dense population of Madhya Rajnagar is now in a state of fear. Schools are empty, shops remain shuttered, and residents are too afraid to leave their homes. Children, in particular, are terrified to venture outdoors.

Jahurul Haque, a local Panchayat member, mentioned that tiger sightings are not unusual during this time of year, particularly between August and November.

He recalled previous instances when forest officials captured tiger cubs in the area. Last year, a lone tiger was also spotted in a nearby locality.

Officials suspect the tigers may have migrated from flood-affected areas or nearby tea estates; they are exploring the matter.
