Traditional Ker Puja reflects Tripura's rich tradition: CM

Agartala, Aug 4: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today said that Ker Puja is one of the traditional pujas of Tripura, and on the occasion of this puja, he extended his greetings to all the people of the state, wishing them happiness and prosperity.

The Chief Minister said this while participating in the traditional Ker Puja at the Ujjayanta Palace premises in Agartala today.

Dr. Saha said that Ker Puja is a traditional puja of Tripura.

“Since childhood, we have been aware of the religious sentiments and significance of Ker Puja. In the Kokborok language, Ker means a boundary. That is, no one can go outside this boundary, and no one can enter from outside the boundary. This was the custom. This traditional puja is held in the palace compound. Earlier, it was observed across Tripura. Gradually, with the passage of time, this puja is now organized within a specific barricaded area inside the Rajbari,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that Ker means Vastu Puja. This puja has been held since the royal period.

“Its main purpose is to pray for the happiness, peace, and prosperity of the people of Tripura. This puja is organized to protect them from epidemics, diseases, floods, disasters, etc. We came here last year too, and we have come this time as well,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said that, whatever the puja may be, people from all castes and tribes celebrate it together.

“In this, there is a sense of satisfaction that we are all one. After our government came to power, we made arrangements to give due respect to the pujas of the janajati communities as well as those from the royal period. This was not seen before. Last year too, we organized this puja with great pomp. On the occasion of this traditional Ker Puja, I extend my greetings to all the people of Tripura. We will all move forward with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas. We hope that we will all live in happiness and peace,” he added.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Bharatiya Janata Party state president and MLA Abhishek Debroy, General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, and other prominent figures from the tribal community at the event organized on this occasion.
