TRESP: 23 livestock farmers leave Tripura on two-day exposure visit

In an initiative aimed at enhancing the skills and income potential of livestock farmers, the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) has organised a two-day inter-state exposure programme for members of Livestock Producer Groups under the Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD).

As part of the programme, a group of 23 livestock farmers from Hezamara RD Block embarked on a study visit to the ICAR–National Research Centre on Pig at Rani in Guwahati on Sunday. The exposure tour was arranged by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of ARDD to provide farmers with practical knowledge and modern techniques in livestock farming.

The programme is being coordinated by Dr. Alindra Mura Singh, Veterinary Officer of Hezamara RD Block, who is overseeing the visit as the in-charge officer, according to an official statement.

Prior to their departure from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala, the farmers were briefed by senior officials associated with the project. Among those present were Dr. Rahul Dhar Purkayastha, Nodal Officer (PIU–ARDD), Dr. Sujoy Biswas, Programme Manager (PIU–ARDD), and Dr. Joydeb Majumder, Livestock Specialist of the TRESP Project Management Unit.

During the interaction, the officials encouraged participants to adopt improved and scientific methods of goat and pig rearing, emphasising that modern livestock management practices can significantly boost productivity and ensure better income for rural households.

The exposure programme will allow farmers to gain first-hand experience in scientific breeding, feeding management, disease prevention and other modern livestock practices through interactions with experts at the national research centre.

Officials said such initiatives under TRESP are designed to strengthen the livestock sector in the state, empower Producer Groups with technical knowledge and promote sustainable livelihood opportunities, particularly for rural and tribal communities in Tripura.
