The Agriculture Department of Tripura is intensifying efforts to strengthen the implementation mechanism of the World Bank-funded Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), with a clear focus on empowering Producer Groups (PGs) and boosting field-level agricultural outcomes.
On 31st July 2025, Subrata Shib, Agriculture Specialist of TRESP, participated in the 5th session of the Farmer Field School (FFS) at Kwtal PG, under Maharanipur Village Committee, Mungiakami Block. The session was also joined by Dr. S.P. Majumder, Senior Consultant of TSA-Agri-Horti (AFC), ensuring expert guidance during the field interactions.
The session featured meaningful discussions with PG members on critical themes like crop management, marketing strategies, yield enhancement, and seasonal planning. In addition to chilli cultivation, several members have taken up brinjal farming, and harvesting of both crops is currently in progress.
Subsequently, a hands-on training session was conducted with members of Jora PG and Salswkang PG, where best practices for improved crop cultivation were shared. The participants responded with high motivation and enthusiasm, expressing their intent to begin bottle gourd cultivation in the first week of August.
The success of these activities is credited to the committed field-level work of the TRESP team at Mungiakami Block, particularly Purba Deb (BPM), Baptosh Debbarma (CC-Agri), and Rahul Das, TSA Field Expert, who ensured effective planning and execution.
In a significant development, Agriculture Department officials have now resolved to assess and improve the quality of PGs more closely, and are expected to be actively present in the field to support and monitor PG formation and capacity-building efforts in collaboration with the TRESP block teams.
Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. P.B. Jamatia, Director of Agriculture, the department continues to promote active involvement of field staff in TRESP activities, thereby reinforcing the project’s grassroots implementation.
According to Abdur Rahman Choudhury, State Media Manager, TRESP PROJECT, with focused interventions and stronger institutional engagement, the Agriculture Department is strengthening TRESP's implementation framework, ensuring better outcomes for rural and tribal farmers across the state.
