Tripura’s first Govt Nursing College begins journey

Agartala, Aug 01: After Dental College, now the state got its first government nursing college under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
He inaugurated the Agartala Government Nursing College on Tuesday. Now, besides ANM and GNM, the aspirants will also get an opportunity to study B.Sc Nursing within the state.
Functioning at G+8 building of IGM Hospital, the Agartala Government Nursing College has been equipped with modern infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said, the B.Sc nursing course would be introduced in this institution from the current academic year and it would be a major step in the field of medical education.
Dr. Saha also mentioned that the college has been developed with advanced technology including smart class, hostels and other modern facilities.
The state government is fully committed to the development of medical services and the enhancement of overall healthcare infrastructure up to the primary level and to fulfil this commitment, the government has increased the budget allocation for the health sector this year to Rs 1756 crore.
He said, the state budget 2023-24 proposed construction of approximately 100 new Health Sub-Centers. Currently, there are two medical colleges in the state, and a MoU has been signed to establish another private medical college at Ambassa in the Dhalai district. Overall, the government aims to develop Tripura as a health hub.
The Nursing College would initially offer 50 seats. Additionally, in FY 2023-24, the ANM Training Institute in the Gomati district would also be developed for GNM with a capacity of 40 seats, the Chief Minister said.
He also said, the number of Post Graduate seats has been increased from 25 to 79 in Agartala Government Medical College.
"Medical colleges in this state are on par with colleges outside of the state. The state government is continually making efforts to further develop the medical infrastructure. In addition to this, other facilities, including space allocation for patients in hospitals, have been given considerable attention. The state government has successfully upgraded three community health centers in Panisagar, Kumarghat, and Karbook to sub-division hospitals.
Additionally, trauma care centers have been established in South District, Dhalai District, and Gomati District Hospitals. These centers have significantly improved the provision of prompt medical services to individuals injured in road accidents and other incidents. Recently, a new building has been constructed at Longtharai Valley Sub-Divisional Hospital, further enhancing healthcare facilities in the region. Furthermore, multiple primary health centers have been upgraded to CHCs, and six primary health centers received newly inaugurated buildings to provide better healthcare services to the community," stated Dr. Saha, who serves as the Health Minister of the state.
He also said, infrastructure is being developed to set up a trauma care center in Dharmanagar.
The Chief Minister also said, an initiative has also been taken to establish 50-bed de-addiction centers in all 8 districts of the state.
After the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister accompanied by Health secretary Dr. Debashis Basu inspected various facilities in the institution including laboratory and library.
Director of Medical Education Prof. HP Sharma, Director of Family Welfare Dr. Supriya Mallick, Medical Superintendent of AGMC Dr. Sankar Chakraborty, Principal of Agartala Nursing College Dr. Maitri Chowdhury and others were present as distinguished guests in the event.
