Agartala, Aug 17: In a significant achievement, the Tripura government has successfully expanded access to clean drinking water for rural households under the "Atal Jaldhara Mission".
Launched on November 28, 2018, the Atal Jaldhara Mission aimed to provide free piped drinking water connections to every household across the state. Following this initiative, the Central Government launched the Jal Jeevan Mission on August 15, 2019, to replicate similar benefits across rural India. The Atal Jaldhara Mission now operates in tandem with the national Jal Jeevan Mission, significantly boosting the state's water supply infrastructure.
Prior to the launch of the Atal Jaldhara Mission, only 19,251 rural households in Tripura had access to piped drinking water. As of August 11, 2024, this number has surged to an impressive 6,18,863 households. This massive increase underscores the effectiveness of the state's commitment to ensuring clean water for its citizens.
The recent progress includes the connection of an additional 1,810 households between August 1 and August 11, 2024, across various districts in the state. The breakdown of new connections is as follows: North Tripura (86), West Tripura (215), Unakoti (43), Sepahijala (349), Dhalai (268), Gomati (171), Khowai (383), and South Tripura (295).
The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, in an official statement, highlighted this achievement as part of the state government's broader mission to enhance the quality of life for rural residents. By ensuring access to essential resources like clean drinking water, the government continues to prioritize the well-being and health of its citizens.
This milestone not only represents a significant advancement in infrastructure but also a step toward achieving greater equity in resource distribution across rural Tripura. The mission's ongoing success serves as a model for other states in India aiming to enhance rural development through similar initiatives.
