Agartala, Sept 17: Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today paid honour to and felicitated farmers, describing them as the “Annadata” who sustain society and the nation.

The Minister was speaking at the ‘Annada Krishak Samman O Seva’ programme organised by Mohanpur Mandal on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.

As part of the programme, the Minister washed the feet of farmers, wiped them with his traditional shoulder towel and later shared a meal with them.

He said the gesture was not merely a formality but an expression of gratitude towards those whose hard work ensures food on people’s tables.

“The hand that sows the seed in the soil is the blessing behind our daily food,” the Minister said.

He said that the honour of the nation lies in recognising the contribution of people who work on the land.

Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Agriculture Minister highlighted several welfare initiatives of the Union government, including Jan Dhan bank accounts, LPG connections under the Ujjwala Yojana, and sanitation and housing programmes. He said the Prime Minister’s journey was marked by struggle, hard work and dedication.

He also said that whenever he attends public programmes, he makes it a point to invite farmers to the stage because they are the country’s food providers.

“Farmers are Annadata. They are worthy of respect and recognition,” he said, adding that greater recognition of farmers is an important part of building a society that values their contribution.

The Minister said the farmers’ honour and service programme held on the Prime Minister’s birthday should be treated as a renewed commitment to their welfare and dignity.
