Tripura all set for Ropeway project, Govt signs MoU worth Rs 692-cr: CM

Agartala, Sept 27: If everything goes on the right direction, Tripura is all set to get its first Ropeway Project, giving a major boost to the Tourism sector.

Elaborating the project during World Tourism Day event in Agartala, the Chief Minister announced that the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 692 crore with the National Highways Logistics Management Limited for the proposed project.

As per the plan, the Ropeway will connect three key tourist destinations-- from Mata Tripurasundari Temple to Udaipur railway station, from Maharani to Chabimura, Surmacherra and Jampui Hills.

The colorful event on the World Tourism Day was held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan. The unsung heroes, who made selfless contributions in relief works during the recent flood crisis, were felicitated in the programme. The Chief Minister also awarded and honoured various other individuals and tour operators.

The event also saw enthralling performance by popular singer from Kolkata- Srikanta Acharya. He was felicitated by the Chief Minister.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the state government’s initiatives to boost tourism with improved infrastructures and modern facilities.

He also announced that an amount of Rs. 180 crore would be spent for development of several tourist locations-- Chabimura, Sonamukhi area of Kailashahar, Chaturdash Devata Temple, and the Kasba Kalibari area with support from the Asian Development Bank. 

The Chief Minister noted that due to the sincere efforts of the present state government in developing tourism sector, the state had witnessed a significant rise in the tourist footfall over the past few years.

Minister for Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury in his address said, the state government, with support from the central government, has undertaken multi-faceted plans to boost tourism sector. He also said, the brand ambassador of Tripura Tourism Sourav Ganguly has donated Rs. 10 lakh in support of the flood victims in the state.

The other notable persons present in the event included Minister for SC Welfare- Sudhangshu Das, Mayor Dipak Majumder, Secretary of the Tourism Department Dr. TK Debnath and TTDC Managing Director Prashant Badal Negi.
