Tripura Assembly adjourns sine die

Agartala, Mar 28: The Session of Tripura Assembly was adjourned sine die on Tuesday with three Bills, Vote on Account and demand for Supplementary Grants were accepted by the House.

It was the first session of the thirteenth Tripura assembly that commenced on March 24 last with Biswabandhu Sen in the chair. 

Three bills—The Aryabhatta International University, Tripura Bill 2023, The Techno India University, Tripura Bill 2023 and The Indian Stamp (Tripura Sixth Amendment) Bill- 2023 were laid by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in the assembly.

Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma, MLA Jitendra Chaudhury, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy and MLA Chittaranjan Debbarma took part in the discussions on the three bills in the second half of the session.

The House on Tuesday also accepted the Vote on Account of Rs. 9066.56 crore for the first four months- April to July of the FY 2023-24. Finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy had tabled the Vote on Account in the Assembly on March 24 last. Besides, the demand for supplementary grant for the year 2022-23 was also accepted.

In support of a motion of thanks moved on Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya’s speech in the assembly on the first day-- March 24, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the present law and order situation in the state was normal now.

Tripura registered 254 incidents since the assembly polls were announced and 235 persons were arrested in connection with such incidents, he informed the House.

The state government is considering a proposal for purchasing a full-body scanner for the vehicles transporting contraband items to strengthen the fight against drugs, the Chief Minister told the assembly.

The members of Tipra Motha in the assembly protested in the well and staged walkout over the media reports of disallowing some candidates of Board examinations to write answers of Kokborok subject in Roman script.

Earlier on the day, MLA Suryamaninagar Ram Prasad Paul was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
