
Agartala, Sept 18: The 4th Global Renewable Energy Investors' Meet and Expo was held in Gujarat from September 16 to 28.
The event highlighted solar power as a key energy source, underscoring a global shift toward renewable energy as conventional sources like coal and gas.
India aims to generate 500 GW of solar energy by 2030. In line with this, Tripura has set a target of producing 815 MW of electricity by the same year.
According to a memorandum signed by Tripura’s Power Minister Ratanlal Nath, the state plans to generate 396 MW of solar energy, 400 MW through hydro pump storage, 15 MW from hydro power, and 2 MW from bio-energy. The total investment in the renewable energy sector in Tripura is projected to be Rs. 13,000 crore.
Tripura is already making significant strides in solar energy production and management, earning national recognition.
At the Gujarat summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Tripura with the third prize among northeastern states for its achievements in the renewable energy sector. The Power minister received the award on behalf of the state.
Addressing the global representatives and investors at the event, Nath invited them to invest in Tripura's renewable energy sector.
He emphasized the state's industry-friendly policies, availability of land, and favorable investment climate. He also highlighted the government's strong energy vision for 2030 and announced that a comprehensive renewable energy policy for the state is in the final stage of preparation.
The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) was specially recognized at the event for its contribution to renewable energy.
TREDA's Director General Mahananda Debbarma and Joint Director Debabrata Shukla Das accompanied the Power minister in the global summit.
