Tripura BJP chief Rajib Bhattacharjee elected to Rajya Sabha

Agartala, Sept 03: Tripura BJP chief Rajib Bhattacharjee was elected to Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Bhattacharjee, an RSS loyalist and known for his organizational skills, emerged victorious against CPI-M candidate Sudhan Das, a former MLA.
The election was boycotted by three Congress MLAs.
Bhattacharjee's victory was decisive, with 47 votes in his favor out of the 60-member Tripura Legislative Assembly, while Das garnered just 10 votes.
The ruling BJP holds a majority in the Assembly with 33 seats, and its alliance with the NDA is further strengthened by the support of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), which has 13 legislators, and the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), represented by one MLA.
The Rajya Sabha seat in Tripura fell vacant following the resignation of former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who left the position after winning a seat in the Lok Sabha representing the West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency in the recent elections.
The by-election for this seat was conducted on Tuesday, with the results being promptly announced by the Election Commission officials after the vote count.
