Agartala, Mar 21: The Tripura unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated its groundwork for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with party sources indicating that the list of candidates will be announced shortly.
Sources within the party said that a series of internal meetings are taking place to finalize strategies and assess potential candidates. The party leadership is focusing on selecting candidates with strong grassroots connections and a clean public image to strengthen its position in the district council.
The TTAADC polls are considered politically significant. The BJP is aiming to improve its performance and expand its influence in the region. Earlier Chief Minister said the BJP is targeting all seats in the ADC polls.
The alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Tipra Motha Party, which is now ruling the ADC, appears to be hanging in the balance, as both parties intensified independent efforts to consolidate their respective support bases, leaving no stone unturned to strengthen their organizational presence across tribal areas.
In the meantime, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and national secretary Vinod Sonkar, who arrived in Tripura on Friday, met Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in Agartala.
“We had a meaningful and productive interaction on organizational matters and ongoing development initiatives,” the Chief Minister wrote on social media.
The central leaders also held a meeting with the state leaders at the state guest house. Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Rampada jamatia, two ministers- Tinku Roy and Kishor Barman along with other leaders and office bearers were present in the meeting.
Next, they are scheduled to hold another organizational meeting at Saheed Bhagat Singh Yuva Awaas on Saturday morning. This meeting is likely to focus on party's strategies and candidates for the ensuing ADC polls scheduled to be held on April 12.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission confirmed that a total of 9,62,697 voters are eligible to participate in the elections across 28 constituencies. Of them, 4,82,025 are male voters, 4,80,666 female voters, and six belong to the third gender category. A total of 1,257 polling stations have been identified and classified based on sensitivity. The counting of the ADC polls will be declared on April 17.
