Agartala, Nov 09: The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a series of statewide Unity Marches to honour the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a towering figure in India’s freedom struggle and post-independence integration.
The announcement was made by Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee during a press conference held at the state party headquarters on Sunday.
Bhattacharjee highlighted Patel’s pivotal role in the Quit India Movement and his leadership as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister after independence in 1947.
He also emphasized Patel’s instrumental contribution in integrating Tripura into the Indian Union in 1949, countering the then-prevailing inclination toward East Pakistan.
"The collaboration between Sardar Patel and Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi was crucial in securing Tripura’s place within India, making Patel’s legacy especially significant for the people of the state", said Bhattacharjee.
The Pradesh BJP president further added, "To mark this occasion, a symbolic Unity Run was organized across Tripura on October 31, attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, ministers, and MLAs. Building on this momentum, the BJP will conduct Unity Marches in all 10 organizational districts of Tripura starting November 10. Each march will span 8 to 10 kilometers and aim to reinforce the message of national and regional unity".
The schedule includes; November 10: West Tripura District — from Ujjayanta Palace to Hapania Fair Ground, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other dignitaries in attendance; November 12: North Tripura and Sepahijala Districts; November 14: South Tripura District; November 18: Unakoti and Khowai Districts; November 20: Gomati District
The Unity March will also promote the vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” and “Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura,” alongside initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The press conference was attended by senior BJP leaders who reiterated their commitment to strengthening national integration and public welfare through these programs.
