The state education board conducted a survey among parents of candidates to assess their perception of the need to hold physical examinations this year prior to cancelling the exams. 46,768 people participated in the survey and 90.06 percent of them spoke in favour of canceling the exams, TBSE chief Dr. Bhabatosh Saha informed. He also said the board had to consider cancelling the exams since classes could not be held more than 3-4 months in the entire 2020-21 academic year due to the pandemic.
While the education department organized a series of innovative techniques to continue classes among school students like online classes, SMS and WhatsApp based classes, neighbourhood classes etc, the board said benefits of these classes might not have properly reached all students.
