Tripura CEO assures free, fair elections

Agartala, Mar 19: Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura Puneet Agarwal on Tuesday assured of conducting the Lok Sabha polls in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

Speaking to the media, the CEO said that an elaborate security arrangement would be put in place to avoid any untoward incident on the day of polling.
He also appealed to the voters to participate in the festival of democracy and exercise their democratic rights without any fear.
Meanwhile, in West Tripura constituency, the total number of voters is 14,61,836. The figure included 7,33,464 male voters, 7,28,314 female voters and 58 third genders.
Similarly, in the East Tripura seat, a total of 13,95,089 voters are enrolled to exercise their democratic rights. There are 7,01,708 male voters, 6,93,365 female voters and 16 third genders.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Usa Jen Mog and Additional Director General of Police G.S. Rao were also present in the press conference held at the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office.
The CEO said, the two parliamentary constituencies in the state- West Tripura and East Tripura would go to polls on April 19 and 26 respectively. Besides, by-election to the Ramnagar assembly constituency would be held on April 19. The counting of votes would take place on June 4 next.
He said, for the Phase-I election, the Gazette Notification would be issued on March 20. The last date for filing nominations would be on March 27, scrutiny of nominations would take place on March 28 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature would be on March 30.
For Phase II (East Tripura seat), the Gazette Notification would be issued on March 28, the last date for filing nominations would be on April 4, scrutiny of nominations would be held on April 5 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature would be April 8, the CEO said.
He said, the Model Code of Conduct has already come into force.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission provided a set of "Dos" and "Don'ts" for political parties and candidates to ensure fair play during the elections, with guidelines on avoiding criticism of private life and inciting tensions between different groups.
The CEO said, special measures were introduced to facilitate voter participation, including Voter Information Slips and Accessible Voter Information Slips for visually impaired individuals.
The Election Commission has set expenditure limits for candidates at Rs. 95 Lakh and already deployed teams to keep an eye on political advertisements.
A total of 154 women-managed polling stations, 60 Divyang-managed polling stations and 60 youth-managed polling stations have been planned in the state.
The gender ratio of the state as per final electoral roll published on January 5 last was 991.
To facilitate voter registration and online nomination processes, Saksham (PwD App) and Suvidha Portal have been introduced.
Restriction has been imposed on the use of loudspeakers during poll campaigning from 10 pm to 6 am.
Citizens were encouraged to utilize platforms like CVIGIL app and Voter Helpline Mobile app to report any violations and access electoral information.
