Tripura CM announces recruitment of 500 women in Police

Agartala, Dec 02: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday said his government planned to recruit 500 women in the police department.
The announcement came during the inaugural session of a blood donation camp, civic action programme and Shyama Puja at Jirania police station complex.
Eleven woman police volunteers were felicitated in the programme under Nirbhaya Fund Framework for their exemplary contributions in reducing the crimes against women.
The Chief Minister then inspected the blood donation camp and took part in winter cloth distribution programme.
Addressing the programme, Deb said the government is implementing various plans for women empowerment and increasing participation of the women in financial activities.
He said, “the women candidates will have an opportunity at a proportionate rate in recruitment of 500 police personnel as decided by the government earlier. Besides, a plan is in the pipeline for recruitment of 500 women in the police department.”
The conviction rate is increasing and the overall crime rate is coming down following the police's active role, he said.
Sharing details, the Chief Minister said, “there is a decline in rape incidents and overall crime against women by 15.4 percent in 2020 as compared to 2019. The number of incidents related to domestic violence came down by 21.2 percent.”
According to Deb, there is a considerable rise in the rate of conviction. As compared to 2018, the conviction rate in various IPC cases has increased by 10 percent while the figure in case of Special and Local Acts hiked from 37 percent to 53 percent.
In another note, the Chief Minister said the women have to take the lead in protecting the young generation from HIV and drugs.
Information and Cultural Affairs minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who also attended the programme, stressed on the importance of generous blood donation to meet the demand of blood.
Citing an example, Chowdhury said a youth from Brahmanbaria of Bangladesh came to Tripura with special permission for a short time based on a social media post and saved the life of a patient by donating blood at IGM hospital. Deb said, the youth has set the best example of humanity.
ADGP Puneet Rastogi, District Magistrate (West Tripura)- Debapriya Bardhan, Superintendent of Police, West Tripura- Manik Das and others were present.
