Tripura CM asks officials for completion of road works before Durga Puja

Agartala, Aug 09: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha directed all concerned to complete the road maintenance works before the ensuing Durga Puja and to maintain strict quality control for the convenience of the public, an official said on Monday.

Addressing a press conference, PWD secretary Kiran Gitte said, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level review meeting on August 8 at the War Room, TIFT to assess the status and progress of maintenance works of different roads across the state.

Senior officers of the Public Works Department, NHIDCL, and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

The meeting focused on expediting ongoing road maintenance works, ensuring quality, and addressing issues related to connectivity, especially during the monsoon season.

NHIDCL and PWD officials presented district-wise progress reports and action plans for pre-Puja maintenance works.

Further, the Secretary, PWD conducted a follow-up meeting on Monday in the Secretariat conference hall to assess the progress of road maintenance works across the state.

Sharing detailed status of road maintenance work, Gitte said, maintenance works of 1,006 roads having a total length of 1,622.0 km under the PWD (R&B), maintenance work of 119 roads having length 665.0 km under the PWD (PMGSY) and maintenance work of 32 roads having length 377.0 km under PWD (NH) have been targeted to be completed by September 30.

Speaking on NHIDCL projects, he said, maintenance works for the road from Champaknagar to Nalgaria Railway Bridge (NH-08) is in progress. Maintenance work of the stretch from Nalgaria Railway Bridge to ISBT Chandrapur will be taken up by the PWD (R&B).

Maintenance works for Khowai to Agartala (NH-108B), Khowai-Kailashahar (NH-208) and Churaibari- Agartala (NH-08) are also in progress.

The official said that road maintenance works are being hampered due to early rains since March, 2026, resulting in the development of potholes on different roads across the state. Sufficient funds are available with the Department for road maintenance works.

The Secretary, PWD, opined that special attention may be given to roads connecting District Headquarters, Sub-Divisional Headquarters, Bus Stands, Railway Stations, Hospitals, and major Puja Pandals, and directed that all maintenance works be completed by September 30.

All the Superintending Engineer(s), Executive Engineer(s), Assistant Engineers (s) and Junior Engineer(s) will visit frequently for inspection of road maintenance works.
