Tripura CM asks PWD to prepare for for Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0

Agartala, Nov 17: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday said that the Public Works Department has been asked to commence preparations for Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0.

The Chief Minister reviewed the works of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, Tripura under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

With the Government of India announcing the rollout of JJM 2.0 in the Union Budget, the State is awaiting detailed guidelines and funding provisions, according to Dr. Saha.

Meanwhile, the DWS Department has been directed to begin preparations for JJM 2.0 and ensure source sustainability across all water supply schemes.

"Officers have also been instructed to prepare an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) policy for drinking water sources and the assets created, ensuring they remain fully functional. Special emphasis was laid on maintaining the highest standards of quality in all works", the Chief Minister mentioned in a social media post.

Additionally, the Water Resources Department, along with the DWS and Forest Departments, has been asked to coordinate efforts for rainwater conservation in Tripura using scientific methods and appropriate technology.

In a separate meeting, the Chief Minister took a thorough review of the existing transport system in Agartala city.

The meeting focused on key challenges and explored strategies to make urban mobility smoother, safer, and more efficient for all.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also reviewed a presentation on the proposed development of Battala Market and the corridor from Gol Bazar to Netaji Chowmuhani, along with the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), at the War Room of TIFT.

Secretary Kiran Gitte, Secretary Abhishek Singh and other officials were present in the review meetings.
