Tripura CM calls for traffic management prioritizing public comfort

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called for a “people-first” approach in managing VIP movements.

Speaking at a review of the Task Monitoring System via video conference from the state secretariat, Dr. Saha instructed officials to redesign traffic arrangements for VIP convoys in a manner that ensures comfort of general public.

Raising concerns about encroachments, the Chief Minister directed all district administrations to take immediate action against the mushrooming of unauthorized makeshifts markets in roadside, which have increasingly disrupted traffic flow and sanitation in urban areas. He emphasized the need for stricter enforcement and continuous monitoring.

All District Magistrates, departmental heads, and senior bureaucrats joined the virtual meeting, where Dr. Saha issued clear warnings on staff accountability.

All government employees must report to work on time and carry out their responsibilities with sincerity, he said, authorizing departmental heads to monitor it.

Turning his focus to urban hygiene, especially within the Agartala Municipal Corporation, the Chief Minister demanded swift improvements. He proposed the formation of more task forces to tackle garbage disposal and beautification drives.

No service delivery gaps will be tolerated, he declared firmly.

On law enforcement, Dr. Saha reiterated his government’s zero-tolerance stance against illegal ganja cultivation and trafficking. He directed police and enforcement agencies to crack down on the trade with immediate effect.

The Chief Minister also pushed for better communication of government welfare schemes to the grassroots. People must know what is available to them. Departments need to step up outreach efforts, he said.

Issues such as infrastructure bottlenecks, unstable power supply, gaps in education and healthcare, urban traffic chaos, law and order, and challenges in banking services were also discussed at length.

Meanwhile, preparations for the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign ahead of Independence Day featured prominently in the meeting. The Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department informed that the campaign will be held in three phases across the state until August 15.

Calling the tricolour a unifying symbol of national pride, Dr. Saha appealed to both citizens and government staff to actively participate.
