Tripura CM directs NHIDCL to expedite NH repair works in state

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today directed NHIDCL officials to expedite the repair and maintenance works on 10 stretches of National Highways 208 and 08.

Dr. Saha reviewed the ongoing works of National Highways in Tripura with NHIDCL officials.

During the meeting, Dr. Saha instructed NHIDCL officials to speed up the repair and maintenance of the Khowai–Kamalpur section of NH-208 and the Churaibari–Panisagar section of NH-08, which are severely damaged. NHIDCL officials made a detailed presentation on the ongoing works of National Highways, the Agartala Western Bypass, as well as the proposed four-laning of the Churaibari–Sabroom section of NH-08, the Agartala Eastern Bypass, and the development of the Udaipur–Amarpur section as a spur of NH-08.

In the meeting, Dr. Saha also mentioned that the Khowai to Manik Bhandar section, which was completed on April 17, 2023, is now completely damaged. NHIDCL has committed to reconstruct this damaged section after receiving the final report from CRRI.

Speaking about the Kanchanpur to Vanghmun section, Dr. Saha noted that the Klaskey area frequently experiences major landslides, yet no proper measures have been taken urgently to address these.

"Also, a few retaining walls have been damaged, but no repairs have been carried out so far. NHIDCL has promised to invite tenders for the repairs," said Dr. Saha.

Dr. Saha also directed officials to repair the Shanichhara to Panitilla (Panisagar) stretch, stating that this section is not suitable for vehicular traffic and is a lifeline for Tripura.

According to NHIDCL officials, the tender for the repair of this section has been finalized.
