Agartala, Aug 4: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today said that the state government has been taking several initiatives to strengthen the school education system and improve the overall learning environment in government and government-aided schools.
The Chief Minister said while visiting Bordowali Higher Secondary School in the capital city as part of his initiative to inspect educational institutions across the state.
After inspecting the school, Dr. Saha said his aim is to visit every school in the state and understand the ground realities.
He said Bordowali Higher Secondary School, which falls under his Assembly constituency, was among the first schools he visited as part of this initiative.
“Whenever people hear about government schools, there is often a certain perception. The government spends a significant amount on these institutions, including salaries and other facilities. The salary structure provided to government school teachers is much higher compared to many private schools, and we must ensure that the schools maintain quality and standards,” he said.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to transform Baradowali Higher Secondary School into a model school with better infrastructure, cleanliness, and a positive learning environment.
He said after developing the school as a model school, other institutions can follow the example.
“Education and studies will continue, but the beauty, cleanliness, and overall environment of a school also matter. A good atmosphere helps students and teachers,” said Dr Saha.
Dr. Saha informed that during the visit, the school principal highlighted the issue of students having to stand under the sun during morning prayers.
He assured that necessary steps would be taken to resolve the problem. He also emphasised the role of teachers in maintaining discipline, cleanliness, and academic standards. The Chief Minister suggested organising cleanliness drives involving students so that they develop a sense of responsibility towards their surroundings.
“Good practices should be adopted everywhere. Teachers also have an important role to play, and I will discuss these issues with them,” he said.
During the inspection, officials briefed the Chief Minister about ongoing infrastructure development works, including construction of a boundary wall and gallery.
Dr. Saha reiterated that his school visits would not be limited to his constituency and that he would visit institutions across the state to understand their requirements and take necessary measures. He also highlighted various government initiatives, including the establishment of de-addiction centres in all eight districts and expansion of healthcare facilities.
He said the government is also considering further strengthening rehabilitation services, including facilities at Narsingarh. The Chief Minister said that practical visits to institutions help in identifying problems and finding effective solutions for better development.
