Agartala, May 13: Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday highlighted the critical contribution of nurses in delivering quality healthcare services, stating that the image and credibility of medical institutions largely depend on the dedication, conduct, and efficiency of nursing professionals.
Speaking at the International Nurses Day celebration held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, the Chief Minister said strengthening the nursing workforce through advanced training and professional development is essential for improving public confidence in the healthcare system.
He noted that nurses regularly encounter numerous professional challenges while carrying out their responsibilities and said overcoming such situations enhances both their experience and service capabilities.
Emphasizing the importance of a strong nursing framework, Saha remarked that an efficient healthcare system cannot function without the active contribution of nurses. He urged nursing staff across the state to continue serving with sincerity and greater responsibility.
Referring to the significance of International Nurses Day, the Chief Minister said the occasion is observed every year on May 12 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale and recognize the invaluable service of nurses worldwide. While several programmes were organized on Monday, the main state-level function took place on Tuesday.
Highlighting recent developments in the health sector, Saha claimed that Tripura has achieved nearly an 80 percent reduction in patient referral cases over the last few years.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to establish a medical college in the ADC region.
Additionally, he said efforts are underway to set up a 50-bed super-speciality hospital in the state, adding that the government is prepared to allot land for the project and investors have already shown interest.
The programme was attended by Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director Dr. Debashri Debbarma, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Medical Education Prof. H.P. Sharma, members of the Tripura Nursing Council, and other officials.
As part of the event, nursing students were honoured with awards in different categories for their achievements and contributions.
