Agartala, May 27: Seeking to showcase Tripura’s spiritual heritage and boost religious tourism, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has extended invitations to top leaders across the country to visit the sacred Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
The invitations were sent to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, members of the Union Cabinet, Governors, Lieutenant Governors, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of all states and Union Territories.
Located in Udaipur under Gomati district, the centuries-old temple dedicated to Goddess Tripura Sundari is considered one of Tripura’s most important spiritual landmarks. The shrine attracts thousands of devotees from different parts of the country every year and plays a significant role in the state’s cultural and religious identity.
In his message, the Chief Minister described the temple as a symbol of faith, tradition and communal harmony with a history of more than 500 years. He noted that the temple’s peaceful atmosphere and historical importance continue to draw pilgrims and tourists alike.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the growing popularity of the annual Diwali Mela organised at the temple premises. The festival witnesses massive footfall every year and has evolved into one of the state’s largest religious and cultural gatherings.
Referring to recent development initiatives, the Chief Minister said infrastructural upgrades and beautification works have been undertaken in and around the temple under the Centre’s PRASAD scheme during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the Chief Minister, greater exposure of the temple at the national level would help attract more visitors to Tripura and further strengthen the state’s position as an emerging destination for spiritual tourism in the Northeast.
Meanwhile, the sacred shrine entered the national limelight after Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers to Maa Tripura Sundari on September 22 last year, the first day of Navratri. The Prime Minister also dedicated the redeveloped temple premises on that day.
While the Prime Minister’s visit to the temple was trending on X and since then the tourist inflow has increased substantially.
Noted Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty also visited the revered temple on April 17, this year.
